Trifexis® (spinosad + milbemycin oxime) protects your dog from five dangerous parasites: fleas, heartworm and three kinds of intestinal parasites — roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm.

How your veterinarian can help

Your veterinarian is the best source of information regarding your pet's health. When talking with your veterinarian about parasite protection, your visit might include:

  • A thorough examination of your pet to determine:
    • the severity and possible sources of flea infestation and intestinal parasite infection
    • diagnostics to ensure your dog is free from heartworm infection before starting on a heartworm preventive
  • Fecal diagnostics (stool samples and tests)
  • An assessment of your lifestyle and that of your pet's to determine which parasites are of concern and which parasite protection products are best suited for your specific needs
  • A review of flea control options, including immediate remedies as well as a long-term parasite protection program
  • A discussion of the need for year-round parasite protection

Important Safety Information

Serious adverse reactions have been reported following concomitant extra-label use of ivermectin with spinosad alone, one of the components of Trifexis chewable tablets.

Treatment with fewer than three monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. Prior to administration of Trifexis, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection. Use with caution in breeding females. The safe use of Trifexis in breeding males has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy.

The most common adverse reactions reported were vomiting, depression/lethargy, itching, decreased appetite, and diarrhea. To ensure heartworm prevention, observe your dog for one hour after administration. If vomiting occurs within an hour of administration, redose with another full dose. Puppies less than 14 weeks of age may experience a higher rate of vomiting.
